On Tuesday 15th December a small team of JOSA officials, members, and well-wishers had the opportunity to visit both SA Joytown Primary Special School and Secondary School. Led by our Chairman Barack Ounga, Secretary-General Bonface Agola, Committee member, and acting treasurer Evelyn Anambo represented the officials. John Kinyai represented old students and Madam Joyce Mbula represented former employees. Also in the team were Eng Gichuhi, Mr. Mbaraga, and Anthony Wanyagi all former students of Thika High School and who had been resourceful in raising funds and securing donations for the event in recognition and support of two of the officials with whom they had attended high school together. We also had Moses and Ryan who are friends of JOSA.
We had a long discussion with the teachers and staff from the primary section where we appreciated the effort they are making towards ensuring the students exploit their potentials to the fullest in both learning and extracurricular activities, despite the limited funding against a background of severe disability amongst the students with ⅔ of those present at the school at the time being wheelchair users and requiring personal attention to ensure smooth movement within the school and proper learning.
We later had an opportunity to meet the students and we did our best in motivating them, reminding them that their dreams are valid, their potential and opportunities are unlimited, and that they should do their best post results that shall open up opportunities for them.
